Case Study #2
Benchmarking for Medical Technology Management
In 2009, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation released its Benchmarking HTM service. Matt Baretich was one of the original subject matter experts for the service and continues in that role.
The purpose of the Benchmarking HTM is to allow subscribers to benchmark the performance of their medical technology management programs against other programs, with flexibility in defining their own reference groups. This allows subscribers to identify achievable opportunities for performance improvement.
Benchmarking HTM is an online service in which subscribers enter quantitative and other data describing their medical technology management programs. The service calculates numerous performance metrics and presents a management-focused summary of the medical technology management program. These metrics can be compared to reference groups defined by characteristics selected by the subscriber.
Baretich Engineering has helped numerous medical technology management programs implement Benchmarking HTM in their hospitals and hospital systems. We help with data collection and data entry. Most importantly, we help subscribers interpret the results and identify opportunities for improvement. And we help them implement performance improvement activities.
